NBA Fantasy League Awards

With the NBA regular season on it's final week, it's the best time to hand out my All NBA Fantasy League Awards.  Now, while some of the awardees would win the real NBA awards, the following are winners in the fantasy league world.  In short, these are this season's best players, statistics-wise.

Regular Season MVP

Lebron James - I've been giving James a lot of grief for his childish behavior and boorish arrogance, but statistics wise, this guy is a fantasy stud.  This season, James averaged 29.9 points (on .502 FG percentage and 1.7 3 pointers made), 7.3 rebounds, 8.5 assists, 1.7 steals and 1 block per game.  He was a positive factor in at least 7 statistical categories, and in most leagues, only 9 are measured.  With a crappy line up I had in a league where I missed the live draft, I will finish no lower than 4th, thanks in no small part to James.  He may be the "King" of immaturity, but in NBA Fantasy Land, he truly is the "King."

Playoffs MVP

Manu Ginobili - Geenowbiliii!, as Charles Barkley would shout, has been the Spurs' undisputed savior this season.  Now assured of a playoff spot as either the 7th or 8th seed, the Spurs had a tough time regaining their previous years' dominating form early into the year.  After the All Star Break, with the Spurs' playoff chances fading, Argentinian Ginobili decided to step up, and step up he did.  This past few weeks, which are essentially the Fantasy Leagues' playoffs, Manu averaged 25.5 points (on an astounding .512 FG percentage and .863 FT percentage), 4.1 rebounds, 5.6 assists and 1 steal per game.  The old GInobili is back, and in that sentence, "old" was used as a positive word.

Defensive Player of the Year

Dwight Howard - The big, smiling Orlando Magic superstar is no sweetheart on defense.  Superman has compiled another tremendous defensive season, averaging 13.3 rebounds (league leader), 2.8 blocks (league leader) and 1 steal per game.  If you add in the fact that he hasn't missed a game and averaged 18.3 points (on a league leading .604 FG percentage), it's criminal that Howard is not mentioned as an MVP (for the real season awards) candidate as often as Lebron James or Kobe Bryant.

Best Line of the Year

David Lee - This might be a controversial choice, but it's hard to look past David Lee's triple double against the Golden State Warriors.  Lee finally got his first triple double, and he did it in style, scoring 37 points (on .583 FG percentage and .900 FT percentage), grabbing 20 rebounds and dishing out 10 assists.  How hard was a "30-20-10" game?  The last one to achieve this was some guy named Kareem Abdul Jabbar in 1976!
