Fifty Peso Shots: July 2010

Some shots from the cheap seats:

  • A long-awaited light heavyweight match ups has been set up in the UFC.  Lyoto "The Dragon" Machida will face Quinton "Rampage" Jackson  The Dragon vs Rampage match should be a slam bang affair with both looking to rebound after big losses.  I'm looking forward to Machida bouncing back with renewed energy.  Rampage actually nixed this match up earlier to shoot the A Team movie, he can only hope his performance will be miles better than his impression of B.A. Barracus.
  • So, Ateneo lost the first match up against La Salle this season.  Despite having a six point lead with barely two minutes to go, La Salle goes on a 9-0 run to beat the Blue Eagles.  As much as Archer Sam Marata was great with the back to back threes, what won the game was Ateneo's stupidity.  This is what happens when the backcourt is manned by the ridiculously over-hyped Emman Monfort and the scatter-brained Eric Salamat.  Me want more Art de la Cruz Jr., please.

  •  The Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather super fight will not be fought, at least this year.  Floyd claims that no negotiation took place, but just a month ago, Oscar de la Hoya claimed his Golden Boy Promotions was "close" to closing the deal with Top Rank Promotions.  I guess "Money" Mayweather has settled his IRS problems and no longer has desire to fight, particularly someone who can actually beat him.  Mayweather may want to avoid coming here for a while.  I have a number of chicken dishes I want to try.

  • Several of our youth bowlers are in Finland to battle in the World Youth Championships.  Good luck boys and girls!  Hopefully, they can play and represent us well.  Of course, it would've been a lot easier for them if they didn't HAVE TO PAY THEIR OWN WAY.  Nice work, PBC.

  • I am really pissed that "reporters" and "experts" keep going on about how having Julia Abad working as the head of Presidential Management Staff is "nepotism," since her dad is Budget Secretary.  Nepotism is defined by dictionary.com as, "favoritism based on family relationship."  If these idiots bothered to do research, they'd no Julia is MORE THAN QUALIFIED for the job (with her admirable work at the DSWD and as then Senator Aquino's Chief of Staff) and her family name has nothing to do with the appointment.  The Dallas Mavericks hired Donnie Nelson, the son of then Head Coach Don Nelson, and some would've thought that was nepotism too.  Since then, Donnie has swung incredible deals as VP for Basketball Operations, landing Jason Kidd, re-signing Dirk Nowitzki and trading for Caron Butler, Tyson Chandler and Brendan Haywood.  Given the same chance, Julia will knock her job out of the park.  I'd bet more than fifty pesos on it.

yes its sad to see that our youth bowlers have to pay for their own to go to finland just to SAVE the faces of the PBC BOARD that they cant send a team, pity on local bowling.

what bothers me most is that one of the bowlers there is not even a member of the PBC YET!! she's a filipina but stays in the UAE and just about to study here.
