Now, some shots (good and bad) from the cheap seats:

The Good:

  • Kudos to the new UFC Heavyweight Champ Cain Velasquez.  I was among millions who doubted him, but he sure proved us wrong.  He showed tremendous quickness and cardio which allowed him to move well and escape from his back.  I think that was his key to defeating Brock Lesnar.
  • Smart Gilas Coach Rajko Toroman certainly has intestinal fortitude.  He has to because he has to cut the Smart Gilas line up to 12 by the Asian Games.  If one considers the PBA pros (Sol Mercado, Asi Taulava, Kelly Williams) and Gilas core (Chris Tiu, JV Casio, Mac Baracael, Greg Slaughter, Japeth Aguilar, Chris Lutz) safe, only three spots will be left for Marcio Lassiter, Mark Barroca, Dylan Ababou, Jason Ballesteros, and Aldrech Ramos. Yikes.

  • Slow clap for the Philippine representatives to the 2010 Bowling World Cup.  Despite a day's delay due to the bowling center's questionable structural integrity, Apple Posadas finished 5th and Biboy Rivera took 2nd Runner Up honors.  This marks the highest finish for both Filipinos and Filipinas since 2003 when the Philippines had a 1st and 3rd finish courtesy of CJ Suarez and Jojo Canare.
The Bad:

  • What in heaven's name are the B-Meg Derby Ace Llamados doing?  Losing key players who happen to be front court players is daunting, but they had a whole pre season to get adjusted.  Their offense has looked terrible, especially against Ginebra the other day where they went scoreless for the opening 7 minutes. Posting up Jondan Salvador while everybody stands around is not scary. At all.

  • Everyone knows my hatred for POC Chairman Jose Cojuangco, so I'll tread lightly and objectively.  I just want to say two things.  One, no shooters will compete in the Asian Games.  The shooters are a part of the PNSA, headed by Art Macapagal, Cojuangco's chief rival in the POC elections.  Two, the dragon boat teams have been scratched of the Asian Games team after BEATING the qualifying time set by the POC, because according to the POC, they (rowers) were suspiciously, "too good." Now, you go and decide what those two things mean, ok?
